On most, if not all, smart phones available you can have multiple apps running at once. When you have an app running, but it’s not the focus on the screen it is considered to be running in the background.
When you are done using your app and want to keep it in the background so you can enjoy features like KeepNear and Find My Phone, all you have to do is press the home button on your mobile device. This will take you to your home screen while keeping the app enabled.
In order to see which apps you have running you can:
For iOS users -- double press the ‘home’ button on your phone. This brings up the view of which apps are running and will let you ‘swipe away’ apps you don’t want. When you do so, it closes the app. If you swipe away the XY Find It app it will no longer function until you open it again.
For Android users -- this process varies by phone model and so there is no one way to open this panel. For most phones, however, tap the button to the left or right of the home button to open up the app view. Unlike on iOS if you close the XY Find It app on Android it will continue to work in the background.
