It's possible to share an XY Finder with your family, or another group, by allowing multiple users to log in with the same account.
It’s important to note that each XY Finder can currently only be registered to one account at a time, and it can only be in communication with one mobile device in the same time in the same place. (So if the XY Finder is actively "talking" to one phone it can't "hear" another.)
But if you would like to be able to use more than one device to find the XY Finder, here's how you can set up a shared account:
- Select an email address you don't mind sharing with the rest of your group and use the email address to set up an XY Find It account. (Note: You do not have to give them access to the email inbox, it's not tied to your XY Find It account.)
- Select a secure password that you don't mind sharing with the rest of your group. Don't use a password that you use for other accounts!
- Share the email address and password you used for XY Find It with the other members of your group and share with them any other important details.
- Everyone you've given your login information to can now log in using the XY Find It app on their own devices. It doesn't matter whether their devices are different from yours, even if one of you is using iOS and another is using Android – any device that can use the XY Find It app can find the same XY Finder!
Example:
Heather and her roommate, Rose, both want to keep track of their remote. Heather has an iPad and Rose has a Samsung Galaxy.
Heather can set up an XY Find It account under any email address she likes – she's going to use heather@xyfindit.com. She's going to give the account she makes for heather@xyfindit.com a password she can share with Rose and that they can both remember.
Heather will download XY Find It from the Apple App Store on her iPad and log in as heather@xyfindit.com . Rose will download XY Find It from the Google Play Store on her Samsung Galaxy smartphone and she'll also log in as heather@xyfindit.com.
Now either Heather or Rose can beep the XY Finder on their remote. If they're both in the room when they're looking for the remote, only one person should try to beep it at a time, because the XY Finder can only communicate with one device at a time.
